Type
The raised letters used in Hot Stamping, monogramming Personalized Leather and Book Binding are known as type. No Matter how the letters may differ as to style and size the type body must be alike in one particular - height - so that when they are all wedged tightly together to fill a page form the imprinting surface will be perfectly even. As manufactured in America and England the height is .918 on an inch, also know as Type high.
A font (set) of type includes all the characters in sufficient numbers for ordinary composition. In almost any combination of words the letter e is used most frequently, so a font of type contains more e's than any other letter, and very few z's which are need infrequently.
Type sizes are classified by the point system. A point being 1/72 of an inch. Most common sizes often used in Bible Imprinting is 18 point.
